Our History
1998
In 1998, Scott and Rachel Hughey quit their “day jobs” and opened Creative Classics, a gallery of American crafts, on the Historic Medina Square just south of Cleveland, Ohio. The store sold pottery, glass, gifts and home accessories handmade by American artisans.
In the summer, Scott’s boys occasionally helped out in the store. In the photo above, Scotty displays $10 from our first sale!
Scott (he’ll always be “Scotty” to me) now works on the Delivery Crew and as a Sales Associate on the weekend.
2000
Following Scott’s boys to Virginia, Scott and Rachel moved to Alexandria in 2000 and opened Creative Classics in a tiny space on South Alfred Street in Old Town. At this time, Creative Classics began the transition from a Craft Gallery to a Furniture Store.
In the beginning, we did everything ourselves, including delivery! We quickly learned that “Ohio-sized” furniture doesn’t fit in Old Town houses!
2002
In 2002, we moved to our current location at 906 King Street and began to more heavily focus the store offerings on furniture scaled for town home living.
2004
In 2004, we acquired a warehouse and truck so that we could control the customer experience from beginning to end. We now have 3 full-time Warehouse employees and 3 full-time store employees in addition to Scott and myself.
2019
September 2019 will mark Creative Classics’ 19th year in Old Town Alexandria.
